CLOSING/DELAYED OPENINGS

St. Michael does not make decisions regarding school closings, delayed openings or early dismissals due to inclement weather. These decisions are made by the Superintendent of Catholic Schools after consultation with the weather service, school transportation officials and other administrators.

When weather conditions cause school openings to be questionable, announcements will be made for Jefferson County Catholic Elementary Schools. Please listen to your local TV or radio stations. We will also send a message through FACTS.

If a delayed schedule is announced, doors will open at 9:15 a.m. Tardy bell will ring at 9:50 a.m. Morning pre-school will be cancelled.

EARLY DISMISSAL

When the Archdiocese makes the decision to release Catholic secondary/high schools early
due to inclement weather, St. Michael School will release one hour later. This
allows time for parents/families to pick up their high school students if necessary
and safely reach St. Michael in a timely manner for early dismissal. Afternoon
dismissal procedures will continue as normal (bus riders, walkers, 6-8 carpool,
regular carpool).

A notification via email and text will be sent out through FACTS to all families and
staff in the event of an early dismissal. Please make every effort to keep your
contact information updated in our FACTS system at all times.
In the event that St. Michael is released early due to weather:

● All after school activities, including clubs and athletic practices or events, are
canceled.
● Parish offices will close after the close of school.
● Childcare will remain open for one hour after school closes.
● After school care will remain open for one hour after school closes.
● No parish or school meetings (including but not limited to PTO, SAB, Finance,
Parish Council, or Athletic Board meetings) may be held until the campus
reopens.

If St. Michael School releases at normal time, but inclement weather is still a
possibility, our childcare and after school care program will determine if
there is a need to close before 6:00. This will be communicated to parents
by our Childcare director, Ms. Kristina Fehr, or a delegate. No Public Announcements will be made about early dismissal in Jefferson County Catholic Elementary Schools except in the case of an extreme emergency (i.e., chemical leaks/spills, etc.) If St. Michael must dismiss early, parents will be notified via website announcement and through our FACTS Call System (please make sure we have a current phone number on file for this notification system). All parents are required to fill out and sign the form in the registration packet that designates the child’s destination for an emergency school closing.
