The school counselors are vital members of the education team. They help students in the areas of personal/social development and academic/ career development.

Following are the various services that the school counselors' offices provide:

Individual Counseling

Individual counseling is a private session between the school counselor and the student in which they work together on a problem or topic of interest. This one-on-one meeting provides the student maximum privacy in which he or she may freely explore ideas and behaviors. Possible reasons for individual counseling:

  • Conflict management/resolution
  • Communication skills
  • Stress and anxiety management
  • Grief
  • Self-control
  • Organizational skills
  • Self-esteem
  • Problem solving
  • Decision making skills
  • Self-confidence
  • Divorce

The counselor(s) may recommend outside services as needed.

Classroom Guidance

The school counselors visit grades K-8 once a month for 30 minute lessons. Lessons focus on social skills, diversity, tolerance, character education, Peacebuilders, careers, problem solving, conflict resolution, study skills, goal setting, drug and alcohol prevention, team building, bully prevention, friendship skills and self-understanding. Students are encouraged during lessons to explore these topics through creative, fun, and unique experiences.

Small Group Counseling

Small group counseling is for two or more students. Input from parents, teachers, and students is used to determine the need for small groups. Groups are designed to focus on the similar needs of the children involved.
